What is the Talbot Kennel Club (TKC)? The Talbot Kennel Club (TKC) is a group of people who are interested in dogs. Their interests range from showing dogs in the breed ring (conformation) to competition obedience training, puppy socialization and agility. The TKC is affiliated with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and has members from several counties in Maryland and Delaware.
The TKC has a heated and air-conditioned training facility in Cordova, Maryland. Floors are cushioned to avoid injury or strain to our dogs while working. Classes are held year round. Special accommodations have been made for deaf dogs, sign language instruction, wheelchair access and handicapped owners. Reduced rates are available for rescue dogs and 4-H members. The facility is available for rent for activities and individual training. |
Is there a fee for services offered by the TKC? Breeder referral and assistance with puppy selection are free. Training classes charge a fee per eight-week session. Contact the TKC for the rate schedule. |
Why would I need or want to train my dog? All dog owners want their pets to be good mannered members of the family. Dogs do not know how to be good family members unless they are taught. Also, dogs have needs that may be different form the family's expectations of good behavior. Understanding your dog's needs and training your dog results in a pet that fits in well with all family members. |
Do I have to join the TKC to receive training or other services? All classes and seminars given by the TKC as well as Breeder Referral are offered to the public. While the TKC welcomes new members, there is no requirement to join the club in order to participate in the training. The option of joining the TKC is always open.
|
Must I own a purebred dog to participate? There is no requirement that only purebred dogs are accepted for training. All dogs are welcome in the Club's classes. While only AKC-registered dogs may compete in AKC sponsored events, many non-AKC registered dogs may compete in American Mixed Breed Organization Registry (AMBOR) events. |
How do I find out about the training or other services? The TKC may be reached at 410-820-1229. There is an answering machine for you to leave a message and your call will be returned. Please state your particular interest so that the appropriate member can respond. Be sure to leave your name and your telephone number. |
